Plans to Merge: HILLS, Inc. & FRIENDS of Broomfield

For the past 10 years, HILLS has been 100% committed to providing opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to travel, lead healthy lives, and socialize with others.  We pride ourselves in making trips happen for people who have often heard they can’t do something because of their disability.  As a leader in travel services for this population, we pledge our continued commitment to delivering high quality programs.

We are pleased to announce HILLS and FRIENDS of Broomfield are interested in combining forces and are working on a plan to merge the two organizations together.

Who is FRIENDS of Broomfield?

FRIENDS of Broomfield is dedicated to enhancing communities by creating opportunities and programs for individuals with developmental disabilities through an innovative and person-centered approach. For the past 20 years, FRIENDS of Broomfield Leadership Team and staff has ensured that adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities have a voice in the community, and access to personalized supports that promote independence and choice.

Why are we consolidating?

Over the past six months, HILLS has looked toward the future and has pledged to continue to provide trips, day excursions, and social activities to individuals throughout Colorado and beyond.  By merging with an established, well recognized agency like FRIENDS of Broomfield, we will be able to continue to provide travel, recreation, and social programs to exciting and unique destinations year-round. Our merger creates an opportunity for more trips and social opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Where will the office and staff of HILLS be located?

HILLS Program Director, Alyson Finch, and Program Associate, Will Frakes, will become employees of FRIENDS and will move their offices to the FRIENDS of Broomfield building.

Will the name change?

FRIENDS recognizes that our agency has created a name for itself in the ten years we have provided programming to Denver and the surrounding communities, so the HILLS name will live on, but fall under the umbrella of the FRIENDS of Broomfield. One of the final steps of the merge will include the dissolution of our 501-c-3 status as a nonprofit organization.

What will happen to the volunteers and independent contractors?  

The many volunteers and independent contractors you know so well will continue to be part of the trips so each person receives the attention and support they need while travelling.

How will this affect me?

Perhaps you are wondering how does this change affect you — HILLS valued customers and stakeholders? There will be no changes on the trips for which you have registered and paid.  Will and Alyson will continue to be your first point of contact about trips.  FRIENDS of Broomfield staff  is excited to meet you and work with you as well.

What is the official date of the merge?

We are working hard to make this transition happen as expediently as possible, but there are many details in this complex process. We will keep you updated on an official date.
