Meet the HILLS Staff

 

Dawn Parker is the Interim Executive Director of HILLS and graduate of Colorado State University where she earned her Masters Degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She has been involved in the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities for over 20 years in a wide spectrum of settings.  Dawn was previously the Program Manager and Area manager of Bethesda Lutheran Communities (formerly Good Shepherd Communities) in Northern Colorado, specializing in supported living services, children’s extensive services, and host home opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities in an effort to create stronger community connections and the establishment of greater independence.  She believes in the value of travel not only as a means of recreation, but also as an educational discovery from both a personal and societal perspective. After 2.5 years of fulfilling dedication to HILLS, Dawn and her family recently relocated to North Carolina to pursue their own sense of adventure. She plans to remain connected to HILLS by conducting day-to-day interactions and participating on future trips. Alyson Finch, Program Director,  has been planning and leading trips at HILLS since March of 2014.  She has recently added some additional skills to her impressive resume and racked up major miles with the airlines! Alyson joined us from upstate New York where she graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland with a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation. She has experience with program planning and has worked with individuals with disabilities in the recreational setting since she was 13.  In the Fall of 2013 she completed her internship with the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, Adaptive Recreation Opportunities (ARO). Will

Will Frakes is our incredible Program Associate. In his time with HILLS, he has already traveled far and wide! He graduated with honors from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Special Education. He has spent nearly a decade working in both middle school and high school special education classrooms. During the summers, he spent his time as a lead counselor at a local summer camp designed for individuals with special needs. He has extensive world travel experience including North America, Central America, South America, Europe and Asia. He is an Up with People alumni and believes the joys of travel are some of the most important things a person can experience. Independent Contractors and Volunteers:  HILLS has a variety of independent contractors and volunteers that lead our local and out-of-state trips.  Our independent contractors and volunteers have extensive backgrounds working with people with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury and/or in the medical field.  Every trip has at least one independent contractor, if not all, that are certified to administer medications and all are CPR and First Aid Certified.  They have all passed background checks and come with strong professional references.  Because being a HILLS trip leader is not a full-time job, many of our contractors currently continue to work in the field and may work as residential supervisors, CNA’s, RN’s, Host Home Providers, etc.  If you are interested in becoming a HILLS independent contractor or volunteer, please email us with your resume at: info@hills-inc.org
