Ability Levels

You will see underneath each trip description an accessibility rating which is either (a) or (A).  This is to better help you choose a trip that will meet your mobility needs.

(A) = a trip that is fully accessible for manual or electric wheelchairs.  We can also provide hoyer lifts with advance notice and our vehicles at our destination will be wheelchair accessible, you just need to be able to provide your own transportation to the Denver airport if the trip involves flying.  Hotel rooms are always semi-accessible and we do our best to find the most accessible hotels available.  If you need a roll-in shower, a shower chair, support bars near the toilet, or any other specific accommodations please let us know and we will do our best to find a room that meets your needs.  We also have 2 manual wheelchairs that we can loan to clients who may have difficulty walking long distances.  Please let us know if you would like to use one.

(a) = a trip that is semi-accessible and will require clients that are in wheelchairs to have the ability to transfer out of their wheelchair to be able to access certain activities.  These are restrictions imposed by the activities/venues and not by HILLS, Inc.  We wish that all activities were 100% wheelchair accessible but that is not always the case unfortunately.

General Information on Ability Levels

Our staff can meet the needs of a variety of abilities.  Part of the process of signing-up involves meeting with a staff person and talking about each participant’s specific needs and abilities.  We have staff that can do basic sign language to meet the needs of those that are deaf, hard of hearing, or non-verbal.  We work with a variety of clients ranging from those that are very independent and mobile to those that use wheelchairs and need full support with everyday tasks and personal care. If needed we can also provide CNA’s on our trips for those that have more complicated medical needs that require certified professionals.  We do require at least a 3 month notice prior to a trip if someone needs a CNA to accompany them.  Our staff is certified in medication administration and can meet basic medical and first aid needs for each client. The ages of our clients also vary and have ranged from people in their early 20’s to people in their 70’s.  We do offer one teen trip each summer for people 13-17 years old.  All of our other trips are open to people 18 and older.

Our trips are filled with lots of fun activities however we move at a relatively slow pace for all to enjoy their vacation.  We simply need our Consent form filled out to know that each person is healthy enough to participate on our trips.  Please click on the Forms tab to download the necessary forms that needed to filled out and mailed in prior to each trip.  Do not hesitate to call us at (303)875-9149 if you have questions about someone’s specific abilities and if we can meet their needs.
